Saint Michael’s senior John Goodwin was named to the All-Conference team at the 2011 Northeast-10 Championship at Cyprian Keyes in Boylston, Mass. on October 2-3. He shot 77-76–153 to finish tied for eighth place at the annual championship event.
This has been a great week for Saint Michael’s College golf. We had our best finish at the NE-10 championships since 2000 and I had the best individual finish for SMC since 2008. We are going to be featured in the campus newspaper, and I made an awesome dinner for the team and we had some good team bonding.
Hopefully this boost of moral will propel us to a great finish at this coming Wednesday’s Franklin Pierce Invitational and the best finish Saint Michael’s has ever had in NEIGAs. We know we can definitely go and put up some impressive numbers so it is just a matter of staying focused and going out and getting it done.
We have finalized the team in the past week and things are finally getting started for the Saint Michael’s golf team. Classes have kicked into full gear and we have had our first match of the year. This past weekend we had a two day match down at Middlebury College facing off against 23 other schools from all over New England and New York. With two new faces joining the team and six returning players we are going into the season with high hopes. Despite having a difficult weekend at Middlebury we still have confidence that should carry us into the long season we have.
This Wednesday we have our second match, the Vermont State Championships, which is located at our home course Vermont National. We are looking forward to bouncing back and finding a victory at our only home match of the year.
I am excited to be a representative for the Saint Michael’s golf team and the NE-10 Conference. I will keep posting when possible as we progress through the season.

Goodwin is in his fourth season as a member of the men’s golf team, and first as a co-captain. Goodwin was one of the Purple Knights’ top golfers last season, as he finished first among Saint Michael’s competitors at the Vermont Intercollegiate Championship on Sept. 22. Goodwin also placed second among Purple Knights at the NE-10 Championship in October and was one of the team’s top two finishers in six of its seven events last season.
